Welcome everyone, to the official Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival website. I’m Mike St. Arnaud, Chairman of the 2010 festival. It is an absolute honor to be serving in this capacity after serving on the festival board for 5 years now. I first joined the board in 2004 as a voting member for Dixie Youth Baseball and served as such for two years, until I was elected to serve as Treasurer for two years in a row. In 2008, I was elected to serve as the Chairman-Elect for the 2009 festival.
I’m currently employed by Elmer Candy Company as Plant Manager and have been since 2000. I’ve been married to Bonni St. Arnaud for 20 years now, and have 4 children; Jon, Cody, Taylor, & Shanel McCaleb; a son-in-law, Warren McCaleb; and a grandson, Kenner.
I love this festival, as do the over 300,000 visitors that visit each year from across the country, and it is with great pride that I invite you to the greatest festival and sweetest city around to witness what the 45 board members work so hard for all year long. This festival is put on to not only promote the strawberry farmers and the industry they have dedicated their lives to, but to give non-profits from around the state the opportunity to make money for their scholarships or organizations by selling delicious Southern food and demonstrating what this city is all about, hospitality. While you’re dining on some of the best delicacies in the South, enjoy the large variety of music that can be found on two stages that anyone can find something to dance to; visit our newest addition, Lil’ Farmers Row, where children can enjoy the petting zoo or games by local organizations, where everyone is a winner; ride state of the art rides by Lowery Carnival Co.; and before you leave, make sure you stop by Farmer’s Row to buy a flat, or six, of Louisiana strawberries, because no trip is complete without getting a taste of what real strawberries should taste like. So, I invite you and your family to make your way to Ponchatoula April 9th, 10th, and 11th, of 2010, to experience the largest free festival in the state, next to Mardi Gras.
